WELCOME TO CROSSAN STUDIOS
I never thought that after 35 years in business as a professional photographer that I would be sitting at a computer Typing to a BLOG…When I started in photography I made photographs, went to the darkroom, developed the B&W film, washed and dried it. Then made prints and washed and dried them and either drove them to the client, mailed them or they were picked up. WOW have times have changed. While film is still used in the industry, for the most part if your not Digital your not in business. The change to Digital has been good (great in many ways) and at the same time has changed the way we do business and sell and deliver the images we take. On the Professional side of photography One of the Biggest Misconceptions is that Digital is Cheaper(or less expensive) because there is No Film. THIS COULDN’T BE FUTURE FROM THE TRUTH. On the professional side our cameras are now $ 3,000 to $ 4,000 each and need to be replaced every few years (this includes the back up cameras we have). The computers we use to PROCESS the images are top of the line and also usually need to be replaced every 3 to 4 years. Depending on the types of photography you do the number Software programs used to color correct, sharpen, sometimes soften, edit, add special effects can be endless. Then there is the Storage devised we use to store and archive images and burn the CD’s and DVD’s which are hooked up to battery backup systems and surge protectors…On top of that we now attend classes and seminars to learn about work flow and the best way to get these digital file to look there best.
Well enough of that. As you can see what it takes to produce a Digital Image today (not to mention the amount of time) is INCREDIBLE…The results can be amazing and yes we can send the images in a flash to anyone anywhere in the world, how cool is that…Something else I could Never have dreamed of 35 years ago. So where am I going with all of this. The next time you hire a professional for your photography needs or see a Professionally made Image, Please don’t think the time spent on the images and the end result happens the same way that it does when you take your point and shoot out and email your friend the photo or post it on the web…1973 to 2008
