Cape Henlopen Aerial

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

After all the snow, rain and wind the weather finally broke and we had a great day for shooting aerial images in Sussex county,DE.  One of my favorite places to fly over and shoot is Cape Henlopen State Park near Lewes,DE. The ever shifting and migrating sands make it a very interesting place. Aerial photography

Aerial Photography Is A Specialty

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

There are some who think making an  is as simple as sticking a camera out the window of a plane and you will get great results.  Far from the truth. First to get  the best quality in many situations the use of a helicopter is a must. Yes they are more expensive to charter but worth every cent. Second , shooting through the glass is a terrible mistake.  One should take the door off or if in the winter ask for a photo door  which is the second best cenerio. Knowing the altitude ,light direction and lens selection also contribute to the final result. Once you download your and process your RAW files how they are handled and worked on will also determine your final results.  Take for example this image.  It was actually 2 images stitched together to make one. At Eric Crossan Studios aerial photography has been a specialty for many years and we continue to search for ways to make more interesting images everyday

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

With only a month to go news reports say that the University of Delaware is the lone bidder for the former Chrysler assembly plant / siteUniversity of Delaware's-SportsComplex, Newark,DE which site across South College Ave. from the Univ.’s sports complex  in Newark,DE. It will be interesting to see if the UD can snag the site  and what will become of it in years to come.  I made this aerial view to show the plants proximity to the UD complex.

Agricultural Abstract

One of the perks of getting fly to make aerial photographs is the sometimes interesting  sites you  get to see that others never will. So I photograph them when there’s time and share them for all to see. One example was this abstract  made when a farmer left patterns of  standing crops on a game reserve in southern Delaware….

Rehoboth Beach Aerials

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

After waiting almost 2 weeks for the”right day” I finally got into the air via an Enstrom helicopter to shoot a number of assignments for George and Lynch, Pano Development and Christiana Excuvating. On the way back to the studio we flew along the coast and I had a chance to capture some images of the Dewey and Rehoboth Beaches during the busy tourist season. I have posted one of the images I made at the end of Rehoboth Ave. for your viewing pleasure.

Aerial Photography From A Helicpoter

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

One of the special services we provide at Crossan Studios is aerial photography and when using the helicopter to make the photographs this adds a bit of excitement to each assignment.. In the case of last Saturday the Enstrom helicopter landed and picked me up at our Townsend studio..Planning is a large part of the job.. Trying to get the best weather day and the helicopter on the same day can be very challenging. Then you need to know where each site is located and what are the important  aspects  of that job to show in the photography. On Saturday we were shooting for George and Lynch Contractors out of Dover,as well as Christiana Excavating of Newark and Pano Development of Newark.
