Blue Moon Over The Caribbean

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Before leaving for my last trip to the Seabreeze in St Croix ,USVI I purchased a 100 – 400 mm canon zoom lens .  After a month and a half I used this lens more than any other. On the last night of January a rare Blue Moon was very visible and bright  all night long. I did a google search to find out the approx. time then moon would set and set my alarm. At about 5:45 AM where we are used to watching the sun set was a hugh redish ball sinking into the Caribbean, the moon.  How cool ..  Al long exposure and very high ISO with the zoom cranked out to 400mm made the image . Hope to post this with others in a gallery at www.photographstcroix.com,  From one extreme to another I decided to experiment with my 16mm fisheye lens in a protective watertight bag and try to make some in water/out of water images.  It took a while but I finally made a few nice images including this one of a nice brain coral right in from of our rental condo the Seabreeze

Surprise Photography Award

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

The Middletown DE area chamber of commerce had called to ask if I would make a few candid photographs at there  annual fall luncheon at the MOT Birch Senior center today. I was available and said I would be glad to. After making a few images of  attendee’s and of the events speaker , Wilmington University Pres. Dr Jack Varsalona, I sat back down and waited for the next presentation. When the special recognition award was announced , I heard my name and for a moment did not know what to think. The chamber was recognizing me for my 30 plus years of photography in the Middletown-Odessa-Townsend area and more recently to the chamber. Totally surprised I accepted the award from chamber Treasurer Ron Vascik and sputtered a few words of thanks. What a nice honor to be rewarded for something you love to do and for working with people you love to be around.IMG_4034w

One of the benefits of choosing Crossan Studios for an outdoor portrait is the quarter acre pond and dock that we help maintain. It makes a great background.  So when it comes time for repairs and maintenance Eric gets the call. It’s all ready now for the spring and summer season

Wedding Season Is Upon Us

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

While many of my friends in the photography business frown at the thought of shooting a wedding, I have taken a different approach. Over the past 25 yrs I have photographer over 700 weddings and estate parties as part of my photography business.I simply think of each as a commercial job and add the needed creative and personal touches it takes to complete the assignment. Many of our weddings are outdoors and beach related which makes the job more difficult and that is where the commercial photography experience come in. Take this wedding at the beautiful Wilmington Country Club in northern Delaware. The bridal party wanted to do some fun shots.. They did all the work, I recorded it for a great image for their album. Delaware Beach Weddings, Dewey Beach Weddings   and weddings at beach clubs like Baywood Greens and  Venus on the Half Shell  offer a different atmosphere and are fun to photograph. Of course of all the items involved with photographing a wedding/party or event, great customer service is in my opinion the most important of all.

Architectural Photography, especially interior  spaces can be very challenging.  Creating pleasant lighting can take time and may need  numerous lighting applications. These images of guest rooms as well as other spaces at the Dover Sheraton are being used on the official Sheraton/Starwood  Resorts website. Eric Crossan Photography is proud to have worked with Axia Management for over 20 years providing advertising photography for their hotels.

Owning a second home in the Caribbean on  St. Croix, USVI has allowed me to take on photography assignments on the Island. The Hibiscus Beach Resort on the Island’s North Shore took a hit form Hurricane Omar back in October and has been remodeling  rooms and upgrading its buildings. Eric Crossan Photography was recently asked to photograph a couple of the newly renovated guest rooms for the resorts marketing material and web site. We hope this will lead to new photo assignments on St Croix ,St Thomas and St. Johns, all part of the US Virgin Islands
